One of the most highly respected qualifications for supervisors, or people about to acquire supervisory responsibilities.

Course helps develop knowledge, awareness and understanding of legal, moral and social responsibilities in respect of health, safety and welfare on construction sites.

Course includes:

  • H&S Law, Acts and Regulations, Codes of Practice, HSE and enforcement, Safety policies communication and consultation.
  • Developing H&S Management Systems – Audits and reviews, proactive and reactive monitoring.
  • Occupational Health, Noise, Dust and Vibration, Dermatitis, Asbestos, drugs and alcohol, health surveillance.
  • Fire prevention, joint code of practice, managing risk, HFL’s and LPG’s, Extinguishers.
  • Risk Assessment and Method Statements (RAMS) – terminology, controls, young persons.
  • Hazardous Substances, COSHH, Asbestos, Lead.
  • Group Exercise – Risk Assessment.

  • Group Presentations
  • Construction (Design and Management) regulations, duty holders, control systems.
  • Working at Height – hierarchy of control, planning, selection of equipment.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – selection and use requirement of the regulations.
  • Manual Handling – assessment, kinetic lifting.
  • Accidents on site, First Aid Regulations Accident Reporting (RIDDOR 95).
  • Waste and Environmental Management.
  • Toolbox Talks, Induction, Communication.
  • Course examination, results and review.

People who require construction site skills including first line managers, foreman, gangers, team leaders, supervisors responsibilities relevant to their work.  Successful delegates are awarded a CITB SSSTS Certificate.

Alan is our Senior Trainer and Technical Director.

He spent 30 years as a Health & Safety Director of a National Construction company, so he has the muddy boots experience, the qualifications, the stories as well as the likability and sense of humour so crucial to helping people understand the importance of Health & Safety in the workplace.

  1. Q: Do you hold SSSTS Refresher courses?


    Yes, we do - info here.

    NB: the refresher course must be taken before the expiration date of the full SSSTS course as there is no grace period.

  2. Q: Is The Training Societi a registered CITB training centre?


    Yes, we're proud to be a fully registered and regularly audited CITB Site Safety Skills Training Centre.

  3. Q: Is this course approved by the UKCG?


    The SSSTS course is endorsed by the UK Contractors Group (UKCG) as the standard mandatory training for all supervisors working on UKCG sites.

  4. Q: How is the SSSTS course assessed?


    There are two parts to the assessment of the SSSTS course as follows:

    1. There is a multiple choice question paper at the end of the course of which there are 25 questions.  To pass the course delegates have to achieve a pass mark of 72% (they have to get a score of 18 out of 25).
    2. Delegates also have to pass the toolbox assessment which is a presentation.  It is up to the instructor if delegates meet the criteria to pass.
